6/12/22 - Note from Pastor
First Baptist, you are amazing! This past week was an awesome week of VBS. As I walked around the hallways, I saw adults and teenagers working on with children on crafts and teaching them the gospel. Then I went a little further and saw another group teaching children about missions and the need to take the gospel to the ends of the earth. Between recreation, crafts, snacks, music, and missions, I saw tons of smiles, lots of fun, and all age groups working together to teach the next generation about Jesus. It made me so thankful to be a part of this sweet church. At the Wednesday Night Celebration Cookout, one visitor, whose children had come to VBS, thanked me and the church for working so hard to make this a safe, fun, and meaningful experience for her children. That seemed to be the sentiment of both members and visitors.
There are so many to thank, but a special Kudos to the following: Catherine Sims, Diane Bourne, Zach Clark, LeAnn Thomas, our whole staff, the custodial crew, teenage volunteers, and adult volunteers. Everyone was so amazing and there’s no way we would have pulled off such a spectacular event without everyone’s help.
Here are some of the attendance numbers from the week:
We know that events and programs are not the mission, but it’s amazing how events like this can create intense focus on the mission, which is to glorify God by making disciples of all nations. I believe we hit the bullseye with this VBS.
One of the by-products of an event like this one is fellowship. It’s not just in the formal teaching times that are part of the mission, but also, the shoulder-to-shoulder times when groups are in transition that generate conversations and strengthen friendships and build trust as we seek to advance the gospel.
May the Lord continue to bless our church so that we may be a blessing to our members and our community. - Pastor Ben Bowden
